With the conversion of the Templars into the Order of Christ, many of the Templar Knights became navigators. It was in Tomar that much of the voyage planning of the discoveries was done. The caravels bore in their sails the Order of Christ’s cross, spreading the Christian faith overseas. The arrival to exotic destinations, the beauty of the new civilizations, and the charm of the natural materials were the starting point for the decoration of these rooms.
